Concert Europe at the dawn of the 20th century

Events / To do tomorrow / To do this week / Concert Europe at the dawn of the 20th century

Accustomed to giving pride of place to sacred repertoire from all eras, the Moderato Cantabile choir is breaking new ground this year with a program combining sacred and secular music. At the dawn of the 20th century, the period in which this new musical project takes place, Europe is a melting pot of social and cultural changes, reflected in the music of the time. Under the direction of Lionel Haas, the choristers take us on a journey through this era of transition, where Romantic influences rub shoulders with the beginnings of modernity, creating an atmosphere that is both contemplative and exhilarating. This fusion of secular and sacred works will allow us to immerse ourselves in the singular cultural identity of Germany (Schumann, Mendelssohn), England (Hopkins, Holst) and France, notably with Charles Gounod and his Messe Brève No. 7 "Aux chapelles". For the occasion, the choir will be accompanied by Roselyne Koeniguer, who will extend this immersive experience of Europe at the dawn of the 20th century on the organ.
